Tk 260 cr approved to convert streets lights to LED in CCC

The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved Taka 260 crore to replace the street
lights on 466-kilometer road of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) with energy-saving light emitting diode (LED) lamps.
Chief Executive officer of CCC Shamsuddoha confirmed the journalists that ECNEC approved Taka 260 crore for installation of LED lights on roads replacing the fluorescent and sodium street lights.
He said City Mayor AJ M Nasir Uddin has taken necessary initiatives to install sustainable and environment friendly lighting for CCC.
CCC had already started experiencing the benefits of these energy-saving lamps from last year with 61 lamp-posts fitted with 75 watt LED lights, also run by solar energy, he added.
This would not only save money but also improve the quality of lighting and last longer, he said.
LED lights do not need maintenance work for minimum five years, the Chief Executive officer added.
