Tk 2500 cr City Outer Ring Road to be opened for traffic by June next year: CDA Chairman

The underconstruction Chattogram City Outer Ring Road is expected to be opened for traffic by the end of next year. The construction works of one of the biggest projects of Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) – City Outer Ring Road (CORR) is nearing completion.
The estimated cost of the 4-lane 17 kilometers long CORR from Patenga beach to Fouzderhat is Tk 2500 crores and it is expected to be opened for traffic by June next year .
This mega project was undertaken aimed at saving the coastal areas from tidal surge as well as alternative communications for transportations of cargos from Chattogram Port to avoid gridlocks from Bandar to Sitakunda portions on Chattogram-Dhaka Highway.
 With a view to save the coastal areas from Halishahar , Patenga to Fouzderhat from the tidal surge, the Ring road project is being constructed over 30 feet high embankment in this zone of the coast with 100 feet breadth. CDA sources said there are provisions of 11 sluice gates and strongest wave protection wall in this portion of ring road.
For unhindered communications with the main city to Fouzderhat , provisions for feeder roads for linking RAB-7 road, Port toll road and Sagarika Road are being constructed. Moreover the present traffic congestions in front of CEPZ will be eased totally following the connections of ring road with CEPZ road.
Besides, heavy cargo laden transports from Chattogram Port towards other destinations can easily be use d the ring road through feeder road. As a result, the severe traffic congestions in main city will be resolved .
CDA Chairman Abdus Salam told that this CORR is one of the biggest road project of Tk.2500 crores and 75 percent works of this project already completed and the remaining works is expected to be completed by middle of next year. Out of total estimated cost, JAICA is funding Tk.600 crores and the GOB will assist the balance amount ,he added. The main aim of constructing the this outer ring road was to save the people of coastal areas of Chattagra m as well as resolve the alarming traffic congestions in the city, chairman added. He further said this CORR will be used as approach road of the Karnaphluli tunnel which will help to facilitate the transports of south Chattogram, Teknaf, Bandarban to enter in Chattogram-Dhaka highway through ring road without entering the main city .
CDA chairman further said Patenga is a beach resort for the inland and foriegn tourists and a tourism prospect areas and it is quite possible to build up a global standard tourism hub within the 5 kilometers area of the CORR from Patenga point where about 10 thousand tourists will have advantages of touring, sight seeing , walk-way, sea cruising catering and accommodations at a time with provisions of Kids Zone .
Superintending Engineer of CDA, Kazi Hasan Bin Shams apprised the progress of the construction works to New Nation who confirmed this mega project is nearing completion with 75 percent .
