A group of robbers looted Tk 24 lakh by holding a security guard hostage at gunpoint at the ATM booth of United Commercial Bank (UCB) in Osmaninagar, Sylhet.
The incident took place in the Notun Bazar area of Sherpur in the upazila on Monday morning.
According to police, a group of robbers went to UCB Banks ATM booth on the ground floor of Yunus Market in Sherpur Notun Bazar on Monday morning. During this, they tied
 the security guard at gunpoint at the booth, broke the booth and looted Tk 24.25 lakh and fled.
Upon receiving the news, Additional DIG of Sylhet Range Biplob Bijoy Talukder and other senior police officials visited the spot.
Syed Ashraful Amin, manager of the Sherpur branch of UCB Bank, said four men wearing hats and masks entered the booth and took the security guards hostage and looted money. We have lodged a complaint with the police station, he added.
The robbers were wearing masks, so it is difficult to identify them. Even then, multiple teams from multiple police units are working to identify and arrest the robbers, said Sylhet District Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Lutfar Rahman, hoping to arrest them soon.
