Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) destroyed 400 maunds of mangoes in the city’s Jatrabari area on Wednesday on charge of mixing the unhygienic chemicals used for ripening those.
The mangoes that were supposed to hit the market by May end were mixed with chemicals.
Sarwoer Alam, Executive Magistrate of RAB said using chemicals with these for repining quick are harmful to public health, he said.
The law enforcers have also fined nine wholesale depots a total of Tk 24 lakh in this regard, he said.
The depots are Ma Enterprise, Saddam Traders, Nangolcourt Banijjyaloy, Shah Chandrapuri Shabji Vandar, Nannu Enterprise, Madaripur Banijyaloy, Sajib Traders, and Sabiha Banijjyaloy.
