The eight charity boxes of the historic the Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj town received donations amounting to Tk 2 33 93779 in 146 days before they were opened, marking on average Tk.159,00 per day.
The ancient mosque situated on the bank of Narshundha River in Harua of Kishoreganj town has been standing for over 254 years.
It has recently been made headlines due to generous donations by the devotees. It received Tk 23493779, followed by a sum of Tk. 23855556 on 23 January this year.
Donations of gold jewellery and foreign currency were found on Saturday in the presence of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Shamim Alam , ADM Farida Yesmin,,ADC,(General ) Md. Golam Mostafa , Magistrate Mahamudul Islam,RDC Julhash Hossion Shorab, Poura Mayor Mahamud Parvez.and Sanak, Kishoreganj Convener senior Journalist Saiful Haque Mollah Dulu.
Additional District Magistrate (ADM) in Kishoreganj Farida Yesmin told The New Nation that the mosque received about Tk 23393779 Crores along with gold jewellery and foreign currency.
ADM also said the money has been deposited in the Rupali Bank Limited, Kishoregaj Corporate Branch while the gold jewellery has been kept in a safe alongside the previous donation of jewellery. The total money and the jewellery value has yet to be calculated, she added.
