The overall number of global coronavirus cases has surged past 286 million fueled by the spread of the Omicron variant.
According to Johns Hopkins University (JHU), the total case count mounted to 286,433,032 while the death toll from the virus reached 5,428,687 Friday morning.
The US has recorded 54,286,545 cases so far and more than 824,277 people have died from the virus in the country,
the university data shows.
Brazil, which has been experiencing a new wave of cases since January, registered 22,281,649 cases as of Thursday, while its Covid death toll rose to 619,248, reports UNB.
India’s Covid-19 tally rose to 34,822,040 on Friday with 13,154 new cases as per the health ministry data.
Besides, as many as 268 deaths due to the pandemic were reported since Thursday morning took the total death toll to 480,860
Meanwhile, the country’s Omicron tally has reached 961 and at least 320 have recovered, the health ministry said.
