Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Wednesday placed a budget of Tk 130.45 crore for the fiscal year 2018-19.
Vice-chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed announced the budget at a press conference held at the conference room of Administrative Building-2 on the campus at noon.
The budget is around 26 per cent larger than that of the immediate past budget of 2017-18 fiscal. The amount of the outgoing fiscal year budget was Tk 103.61 crore.
Though the allocation for research has almost been doubled in the proposed budget, the estimated amount of Tk 2.9 crore for research is only 2.22 per cent of the annual budgetary amount.
The allocation for the research was only 1.7 crore in the last budget.
The vice-chancellor in his written speech said that Tk 11 crore will come from own sources of the university while the rest of the fund for the budget will be provided by the University Grant Commission.

He mentioned that Tk 93.05 crore has been kept for salary, allowances and pension heads of the university teachers, officials and employees, while Tk 23 crore for infrastructural development and service heads.
Highlighting the proposed plan of bringing all offices on the campus under the under e-office of the university in the next fiscal year, Farid Uddin said that 200 computers would be bought to provide separate computers for each of the offices.
‘Six new buses will be bought to facilitate the teachers and students with better transport service,’ he added.
University treasurer Elias Uddin Biswas, director for account Zaynal Abedin and additional director for account Sheikh Abul Hasan, among others, attended the press conference.
