A new power transmission project will be added with Chittagong Power Development Board soon.
The new project costing Tk.1100cr includes the installation of 2310 meters long transmission line and it is hoped that after implementation of the transmission line project , the power consumers will be increased by 5 more lakh .
This was disclosed by the Chief Engineer of PDB , Chittagong Zone and Project Directeor Engr. Nazrul Islam.
ECNEC meeting of Tuesday approved the transmission line project under project title ‘ Development of Power distribution System in Chittagong’ . PDBsources said the project will be completed by end of 2018 at a cost of Tk.1100 cr.
Out of budget, Tk.1,064 cr will provided by govt and the rest of Tk .36 cr will be spent from PDB fund.
Sources further said the present power consumers in Chittagong zone is about 6.80 lakh and after adding the more 5 lakh, the consumers number will increase by 11.80 lakh. The total demand of power in Chittagong zone is about 800 MWs.
Meanwhile, the city dwellers are the worst sufferers of power recently due to frequent load shedding following the shut down of two power plants in Chittagong . The gas- based Raozan and Sikalbaha power plants went shut down following the suspension of gas supply to these two plants from last week due to gas supply diverted to major fertilizer factories of Chittagong .
KAFCO and CUFL are run by natural gas and these fertilizers factory is re-commissioned after diverting gas supply from power plants to fertilizer plants. For the last few days Chittagong is experiencing about 200 MWs power out of total demand of 700 MWs. Beside the domestic consumers, the industrial consumers in the port city are the most sufferers .
On the other hand, Karnaphuli gas distribution company sources said following the govt decision , gas is being supplied to two these fertilizer factories from last week to meet the demand of urea fertilizers in the country.
