A Tk 10-crore defamation case has been filed against Bahubal Upazila Nirbahi Officer and one of his office assistants.
Engineer Golam Mohiuddin Chowdhury of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) filed the case with the court of senior judicial magistrate here on Wednesday.
According to the case statement, UNO Jasim Uddin sent his office assistant Haripad Das to the office of engineer Mohiuddin for his
signature on a Tk-2 lakh cheque, sanctioned for embankment management works along the Korangi River in the upazila.
But, the engineer refused to sign the cheque for lack of necessary supporting papers in the file. Later, Haripad threatened him saying that the UNO ordered the engineer to sign it.
After he came to know that the LGED engineer did not sign the cheque, the UNO rushed in to the engineer’s office along with police force and ordered the law enforcers to arrest him. Later, the UNO confined the engineer to his room for hours.
On information, Habiganj LGED executive engineer informed the higher officials of the department about the incident.
Later, engineer Mohiuddin was released after he signed a bond following mediation by the district administration.
