2 DB police suspended

The authority of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) sacked two member of Detective Branch (DB) police for their involvement to allow illegal privileges to make mobile phone calls to the relatives of five detained persons, including a Pakistani national, who were arrested for suspecting militants.
The suspended police constables are Khurshed Alam and Mohammad Ayub Khan.
CMP arrested five persons, including a Pakistani citizen, from ‘Hotel Lord’s Inn’, a residential hotel at the city’s GEC crossing on November 23 last.
Masudul Hasan, Deputy Commissioner Sadar of CMP told that the suspended police personnel allowed the arrested persons to call their relatives over mobile phones at DB office on the night of Nov 23.
Meanwhile, a special team of the detective branch of CMP along with the arrested persons left Chittagong for Dhaka on Tuesday to be quizzed by Joint Interrogation Cell amidst tight security.
Earlier on Monday, the court of the Fifth Metropolitan Magistrate Ahmed Sayed granted a five-day remand to each of them after the Detective Branch (DB) of CMP prayed for a 15-day remand.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohammad Alam, 41, Abdul Majid, 30, Mohammad Amin, 50, Mohammad Salamat Ullah, 40 and Shafi Ullah, 36.
