Azfar Alam Memorial Trust Fund of Dhaka University (DU) got Taka 10 lakh as donation to increase its total fund.
Rezaul Karim Khandaker, a relative of the donor of ‘Azfar Alam Memorial Trust Fund’ handed over a cheque of Taka 10 lakh to Dhaka University (DU) Treasurer Professor Dr Md. Kamal Uddin at the Vice-Chancellor’s office on the 18th instant on the campus, said a DU press release.
Earlier, Taka 15 lakh was given to the university authority for establishing the trust fund.
DU Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique, Social Sciences Faculty Dean Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed, Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department Chairman Lafifa Jamal and acting Registrar Md Enamuzzaman were present on occasion.
From the money of the fund, one meritorious student who will secure the highest Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) in BS (honors) examination from the DU Robotics and Mechatronics Engineering Department will be awarded “Azfar Alam Gold Medal” every year.
Besides, some other poor but meritorious students of the Computer Science and Engineering Department of the university also will be given scholarship.
The DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Arefin Siddique thanked the donor and paid
glowing tribute to the memory of late Azfar Alam.
Late Azfar Alam, the only son of A K M Shah Alam and Gulshan Ara Alam, was
born on March 5, 1993 in California, USA.
He was a brilliant student of Computer Science of the University of
California. He had been awarded with US Presidential Award for his
outstanding academic performance. He died in a tragic road accident in the
USA on July 11, 2015, the release added.
