The Tigers will take on the visiting West Indies in the second Test, which begins at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s today. The match starts at 9.30am. Private satellite sports channel T Sports and Nagorik TV will telecast the match live from the arena. Earlier, Bangladesh lost to West Indies by three wickets in the first Test at the Zahur Ahmed Chawdhury Stadium in Chattogram on February 7.
Though Bangladesh’s ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and dependable batsman Shadman Islam were ruled out due to injury but the Tigers vow to earn a good result in the second Test. The home side’s have an option in the opening position as Tamim Iqbal and Saif Hasan will start the batting of the hosts.
Captain of Bangladesh team Mominul Haque said, “We have to show a better brand of cricket if we want to save the series. We have to perform well in three departments (batting, bowling, fielding). I hope we will come back in the second Test.”
Earlier, Bangladesh whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in the recently concluded three-match ODI series. Besides, the Tigers had a 2-0 clean sweep over the islanders in the Test series in the last tour of Caribbeans team’s in Bangladesh in 2018.
Bangladesh were favourite in the first Test and dominated early four days but debutante Kyle Mayers’ unbeaten double century and Nkrumah Bonner’s 86 powered West Indies to earn a three-wicket victory.
Bangladesh’s all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz said, ” We shall miss Shakib Al Hasan in the second Test and our spinners have to take extra responsibility.”
West Indies’ Head Coach Phil Simmons said, “I think they are going to find someone [in place of Shakib] who can go and do the job. But, maybe not as good as Shakib but good enough for a Test match. So, we can not afford to take for granted that Shakib’s not here and it will be easier.”
Nkrumah Bonner said, “We start from zero again. We have to go back to the process, we have to practice and prepare well. It is going to be a different wicket, ground and everything. It is important for us to assess again. Going over the processes and ensure we do well.”
