The Tigers whitewashed West Indies by 3-0 after thrashing the tourists by 120 runs in their third and last One Day International (ODI) match of the Bangabandhu Bangladesh-West Indies ODI series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, the port city of the country on Monday.
Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a mammoth total of 297 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 50 overs and then bundled out the tourists for 177 off 44.2 overs.
It was Bangladesh’s eighth consecutive victory against the Caribbeans team and the home side bagged 30 points in the ICC Super League.
‘Mr Dependable’ Mushfiqur Rahim was adjudged the Man of the Match, while best all-rounder of ODI cricket Shakib Al Hasan was adjudged the Player of the Series.
Bangladesh had a sorrow start as opener Liton Das (0) was trapped leg before wicket by Alzarri Joseph when the hosts’ total was just 1.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto (20) was trapped leg before wicket by Kyle Mayers when the home side’s score was 38 for the loss of two wickets.
Then opener Tamim Iqbal and second-down Shakib Al Hasan repaired the damage contributing together 93 runs
for the third wicket partnership before Tamim was caught at the midwicket by Akeal Hosein off Alzarri Joseph when Bangladesh’s total was 131 for the loss of three wickets.
Tamim Iqbal played a captain’s knock of 64. His 80-ball innings was laced with three fours and a sixer. It was Tamim’s 49th ODI half century.
After dismissal of Tamim, Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur built another notable partnership. They put on together 48 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Shakib was cleanly bowled out by Raymon Riefer when the Tigers’ score was 179 for the loss of four wickets.
Shakib hit a superb 51. His 81-ball knock was studded with three fours. It was Shakib’s 48th ODI half century.
After Shakib’s departure, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad made another worthy partnership. They put up together 92 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Mushfiqur Rahim was caught by Alzarri Joseph off Raymon Riefer when Bangladesh’s total was 251 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim struck a marvelous 64. His 55-ball innings was decorated with four fours and two sixes. It was Mushfirqur’s 39th ODI half century.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya Sarkar added together 32 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar (7) was run out by a joint-effort of Akeal Hosein and wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton when the home side’s score was 283 for the loss of six wickets.
Mahmudullah Riyad remained unbeaten with 64. His 43-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and three fours. It was Riyad’s 22nd ODI half century.
Alzarri Joseph and Raymon Reifer bagged two wickets each conceding 48 and 61 runs respectively.
Besides, Kyle Mayers took one wicket for 34 runs.
The Caribbean batsmen failed to resist the controlled, tight and superb attack of Bangladesh bowlers. The visitors lost their wickets almost regular intervals.
Mohammad Saifuddin grabbed three wickets at the cost of 51 runs, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets each instead of 18 and 24 runs respectively.
Soumya Sarkar and Taskin Ahmed took one wicket each for 22 and 32 runs respectively.
Opener Kjorn Ottley (1) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Mustafizur Rahman when the tourists’ total was just seven.
