Nidahas Trophy: Tigers tame Lions beating 5 wickets

The Tigers posted a thrilling five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in their second match of the Nidahas Trophy Tri-Nation Twenty20 Cricket Series at R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday.

Chasing Sri Lanka’s massive total of 214 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Bangladesh reached the winning target making 215 for the loss of five wickets when they had just two balls to spare.

Mushfiqur Rahim led his team from the front line. He remained unbeaten with 72. His 35-ball innings was ornamented with five fours and four sixes.

Tamim Iqbal cracked 47 runs facing 29 balls. He hit six fours and one sixes.

Liton Das made 43 from 19 balls featuring two fours and five sixes.

Sri Lanka made a good start as the openers Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis put on together 56 runs in the opening stand before Gunathilaka (26) was bowled out by Mustafizur Rahman.

Opener Kusal Mendis and one-down Kusal Perera contributed together 85 runs before Kusal Mendis was caught at the midwicket by Sabbir Rahman off Mahmudullah Riyad when Sri Lanka’s score was 141 for the loss of two wickets.

Kusal Mendis hit a stormy 57. His 30-ball innings was belted with five fours and two sixes.

Thisara Perera was his team’s most successful batsman. He hit a marvelous 74. His 48-ball innings was decorated with eight fours and two sixes.

Upul Tharanga remained unbeaten with 32. He hit four fours and a sixer in his 15-ball innings.

Mustafizur Rahman was his team’s most successful bowler with three wickets at the cost of 48 runs.

Mahmudullah Riyad captured two wickets instead of 15 runs, while Taskin got one wicket conceding 40 runs.
