At least 6 cows of Harun Mridha, Hakim Mridaha, Delwar Mridha and Monir Faraji of village of Dakkhin village Gulishakhali under Morrelganj Upazila in the district adjacent to the Eastern Division of Sundarbans were taken by Royal Bengal tigers on Tuesday from the char lands of the river Bhola that separates the village from the forest.
Affected persons and villagers said , at the noon on the day of incident the owners of the cows took their cows to the char lands raised on the other side of the river Bhola like other days. Then they (owners of the cows) left the place leaving their cattle heads there.
Just before the evening they went there to take back their cattle heads. But they found no trace of the cows there. Finding no other alternative they returned home. In the following morning they went there once again and found the decomposed dead bodies of all the 6 cows laying in scattered way. Then the owners of the cows collected the decomposed dead bodies of the cows and buried them in the char lands .
It is guessed by them that on the day a number of hungry Royal Berngal tigers appeared there, killed the cows and took them into the forest where they (tigers) ate the cows and in the following night they (tigers) took back the decomposed dead bodies to the char lands.
Tendons of UP member’s leg cut by miscreants
Sayem Sardar (32), an UP Member of the Ward No.8 of Ramchandrapur Union Parishad under Morrelganj Upazila in the district was beaten mercilessly and tendon of one of his legs was cut in front of the Union office on Wednesday in a broad daylight by the terrorists.
It is learnt from the police and the locals that an enmity was developed between the UP member Sayem Sardar and Md. Ryad Shikdar, son of one Majid Shikdar of the same Ward (No.8) over an arbitration. Following that enmity on the day at 11 am Ryad Shikdar and his associates attacked the UP member in front of the Union Office, beat him mercilessly and cut off the tendon of his right leg. As a result, the UP member was injured fatally. He was immediately sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for his treatment. Police of Morrelganj PS visited the place of occurrence.
