Terming the recent attack on an official vehicle of the US Embassy as “unfortunate”, the government on Thursday strongly condemned the incident saying that appropriate actions would be taken after completion of the investigation.
“The Government of Bangladesh strongly condemns the unfortunate incident. It is also committed to ensure safety and security of all diplomatic corps in Bangladesh, including the United States,” said a Foreign Ministry statement.
The statement said, “Bangladesh law enforcement agencies have been actively engaged in investigating the incident that took place on August 4. Upon completion of the investigation, appropriate actions will be taken against the attackers.”
The official vehicle of the US Embassy in Dhaka, carrying the US Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, encountered an “unfortunate incident” in the capital’s Mohammadpur area. The law enforcing agencies rushed to the spot and took immediately necessary protections so that the Ambassador and other personnel remain unharmed.
The US Embassy in Dhaka, in statement, also appreciated the efforts taken by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and security officials for their quick and professional response following the attack on a vehicle carrying the Ambassador.
The official vehicle from the US Embassy in Dhaka, which was transporting Ambassador Marcia Bernicat, was attacked by a group of armed adult men, some on motorcycles, in the Mohammadpur area on Saturday where she attended a dinner, said the statement.
There were no injuries to the Ambassador, her drivers, or security staff. However, two security vehicles sustained some damages, it said.

The meeting lasted for an hour and 45 minutes but officials did not share what was discussed in the meeting.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs M Shahriar Alam and Foreign Secretary M Shahidul Haque were also present at the meeting, Ministry sources said.
