Unlucky Bangladesh bade good-by to the ICC T20 World Cup after conceding a narrow three-run loss to West Indies in their third Group-1 match of the ICC T20 World Cup at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Friday.
Sent into bat first, West Indies made a plucky 142 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs and then restricted Bangladesh to 139 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs.
Bangladesh had an awful start as opener Shakib Al Hasan (9) was caught at the mid-off by Jason Holder off Andre Russell when Bangladesh’s score was 21.
After Shakib’s departure, Mohammad Naim, the other opener (17) was bowled out by Jason Holder when Bangladesh’s total was 29.
After Naim’s dismissal, Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar contributed together 31 runs for the third wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar (17) was caught at the short third man by Chris Gayle off Akeal Hosein when

 Bangladesh’s score was 60 for the loss of three wickets.
After Soumya’s departure, Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim repaired the damage scoring together 30 runs in the fourth wicket stand before Mushfiqur Rahim (8) was bowled out by Ravi Rampaul when Bangladesh’s total was 90 for the loss of four wickets.
After Mushfiqur’s dismissal, Liton Das and Mahmudullah Riyad fought back making 40 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Liton was caught by Jason Holder off Dwayne Bravo when Bangladesh’s score was 130 for the loss of five wickets.
Liton hit a splendid 44. His 43-ball innings had four fours.
After Liton’s departure, Afif Hossain came at the crease and they added nine runs for the unbroken sixth wicket partnership. At one stage, Bangladesh needed four runs to win in the last delivery but Mahudullah failed to do that. Thus, the unfortunate Bangladesh bade good-by to the World Cup.
Riyad remained unbeaten with 31 runs. His 24-ball knock saw two fours and a sixer.
Jason Holder, Akeal Hosein, Ravi Rampaul, Andre Russell and Dwayne Bravo took one wicket each conceding 22, 24, 25, 29 and 36 runs respectively.
Earlier, Bangladesh bowlers showed a satisfactory performance to restrict the West Indies to a sizeable total.
Shoriful Islam, Mahedi Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman bagged two wickets each for 20, 27 and 43 runs respectively.
West Indies lost their early three wickets for 32 runs.
Roston Chase and Kieron Pollard put on together 30 runs for the fourth wicket partnership before Pollard was retired hurt on 8.
After Pollard returned to the pavilion as he was retired hurt, Andre Russell (0) was run out by Taskin Ahmed when the Caribbeans’ total was 62 for the loss of four wickets.
After Russell’s dismissal, Roston Chase and Nicholas Pooran added together 57 runs in the five-wicket stand before Pooran was caught at the deep cover by Mohammad Naim off Shoriful Islam when the islanders’ score was 119 for the loss of five wickets.
Pooran made 40 from 22 balls featuring four sixes and one four. Pooran was adjudged the Man of the Match.
After Pooran’s departure, Roston Chase was bowled out by next delivery of Shoriful Islam.
Roston Chase scored 39 from 46 balls including two fours.
Six-down Dwayne Bravo (1) was caught at the deep cover by Soumya Sarkar off Mustafizur Rahman when the Caribbeans’ total was 123 for the loss of seven wickets.
After Bravo’s removal, Kieron Pollard again came at the crease.
Jason Holder remained unbeaten with 15 runs, while Kieron Pollard remained unbeaten with 14.
