Sports Reporter :A superb ton by Mahmudullah Riyad, first ever by a Bangladeshi, in the World Cup Cricket and four-wicket haul by pacer Rubel Hossain powered Bangladesh to reach the quarter-finals of the ICC World Cup Cricket 2015 after knocking out England by 15 runs in their fifth Pool A match at the Adelaide Oval in Adelaide, Australia on Monday. Bangladesh bagged seven points from their five Pool A matches. After the much-awaited victory jubilant fans at home brought out colourful rallies with the national flag. Thousands watched the heroic victory of Tigers on television and on large screen. A good number of spectators of Bangladesh also gathered at the Adelaide Oval and watched their team’s nail-biting victory.Mahmudullah Riyad hit his maiden century in his career. He notched up a splendid 103. His 138-ball knock was ornamented with seven fours and two sixes. Riyad was adjudged the Man of the Match for his spectacular performance.Pacer Rubel Hossain, the other hero of the day bowled a devastating spell and finished as 9.3-0-53-4.Sent into bat first, Bangladesh piled up a healthy 275 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then dismissed England for 260 off 48.3 overs.Bangladesh made a shaky start as they lost their early two wickets for just eight runs.Later, Mahmudullah Riyad and Soumya Sarkar repaired the early damage contributing together 86 runs for the third wicket partnership before Soumya Sarkar was caught behind by wicketkeeper JC Buttler off CJ Jordan when Bangladesh’s total was 94 for the loss of three wickets.After dismissal of Soumya Sarkar, ace batsman Shakib Al Hasan came at the crease but he was caught at the slip by JE Root off Moin Ali for just two runs. At that stage, Bangladesh’s score was 99 for the loss of four wickets.Earlier, dashing opener Tamim Iqbal frustrated the Bangladesh fans as he was dismissed for just two by JM Anderson.After removal of Shakib Al Hasan, Mahmudullah Riyad and Mushfiqur Rahim built a worthy partnership. They put on 141 in the fifth wicket partnership before Mahmudullah Riyad was run out by CR Woakes when the Tigers total was 240 for the loss of five wickets.Mushfiqur Rahim hammered a gutsy 89 from 77 balls featuring eight fours and a sixer before he was caught at the cover by CJ Jordan off SC Broad when Bangladesh’s score was 261 for the loss of six wickets.It was Mushfiqur Rahim’s 21st ODI half century.Soumya Sarkar made a polished 40 off 52 balls including five fours and a sixer.JM Anderson and CJ Jordan got two wickets each conceding 45 and 59 runs respectively.England made a modest start as Moin Ali and IR Bell put on together 43 runs before Moin Ali was unfortunately run out by joint attempt of Soumya Sarkar and Mushfiqur Rahim.After dismissal of Moin Ali, IR Bell and AD Hales made a notable 57 runs partnership for the second wicket stand before AD Hales was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Mashrafe Bin Mortaza when England’s score was 97 for the loss of two wickets.Later, IR Bell was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Rubel Hossain when England’s score was 121 for the loss of three wickets.Then EJ Morgan was dismissed by Rubel Hossain for a duck when England’s score was 121 for the loss of four wickets.After that JW Taylor was removed by Taskin Ahmed for one run. Then Mashrafe Bin Mortaza dismissed JE Root when England’s total was 163 for the loss of six wickets.After dismissal of Root, JC Buttler and CR Woakes added together 75 runs in the seventh wicket partnership before JC Buttler was caught behind by Mushfiqur Rahim off Taskin Ahmed when England’s score was 238 for the loss of seven wickets.Later, CJ Jordan was run out by Shakib Al Hasan when England’s score was 238 for the loss of eight wickets.Then England’s hope went into vapour when Rubel Hossain removed SC Broad for nine and dismissed JM Anderson for a duck and England were away from 15 runs of Bangladesh’s total.Buttler hit a remarkable 65 from 52 balls including six boundaries and one over boundary while IR Bell made a nice 63 off 82 balls featuring seven fours.CR Woakes remained unbeaten with 42 from 40 balls with three fours.Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Taskin Ahmed bagged a pair of wickets each at the cost of 48 and 59 runs respectively.
