Sri Lanka reached the ‘Super Four’ of the Asia Cup beating Bangladesh by two wickets in their crucial Group-B match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates on Thursday. Tigers’ Asia Cup campaign was over.
Chasing Bangladesh’s fighting total of 183 for the loss of seven wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, Sri Lanka reached the winning target making 184 for the loss of eight wickets when they had four balls to spare.
Bangladesh have a modest start as opener Sabbir Rahman (5) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s score was 19.
After Sabbir Rahman’s departure, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan put on together 39 runs for the second wicket partnership before Miraz was trapped leg before wicket by Hasaranga
de Silva when Bangladesh’s total was 58 for the loss of two wickets.
Miraz hit a superb 38. His 26-ball innings saw two fours and two sixes.
Shakib Al Hasan made 24 from 22 balls including three fours.
Afif hammered a marvelous 39. His 22-ball innings saw two sixes and four fours.
Mahmudullah Riyad made 27 from 22 deliveries with one four and one six. Mosaddek Hossain remained unbeaten with 24 runs. He hit four fours in his nine-ball innings.
Chamika Karunaratne and Hasaranga de Silva bagged a pair of wickets each instead of 32 and 41 runs respectively.
Later, Kusal hit a fine 60. His 37-ball innings had three sixes and four fours.
Shanaka scored 45 from 33 balls with two sixes and three fours.
Ebadot Hossain grabbed three wickets in the space of 51 runs, while Taskin Ahmed bagged two wickets for 24 runs.
