Stating that their party considers China’s assistance for Bangladesh’s socioeconomic development with very
importance, BNP spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday said the bilateral ties between the two nations will deepen further if their party returns to power.
“We can proudly say the Bangladesh-China historical friendly ties are very much consolidated. These will never get dented. Bangladesh’s relations with China will be strengthened further when BNP will return to power,” he told a seminar.
Bangladesh-China Friendship Association arranged the seminar at the Jatiya Press Club marking the 65th founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China and 39 years of Bangladesh-China diplomatic relations.
Fakhrul, the party acting secretary general, said BNP founder Ziaur Rahman established South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) for the development of the region. “Now China is also its observer. BNP will work for intensifying regional cooperation if it comes to power.”
He said, mutual cooperation is a prerequisite to ensuring overall development of the region as education, culture, economy and politics of any country are deeply connected with one another in the South East Asia region.
Mentioning that around 42 percent people of the world population live in the
South East Asia, the BNP leader said the development of the region is also very important for the world economy.
China is now a favourite name to the people of Bangladesh for its outstanding contributions to the country’s socio-economic development, Fakhrul said adding that Ziaur Rahman had first established the diplomatic ties with China.
“There’s a similarity between the people’s of the two countries as the two nations historically fought against and hegemonic and imperialistic forces for long. The people of Bangladesh are now struggling to restore democracy,” he added.
Fakhrul lamented that the government illegally imprisoned their leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, also president of Bangladesh-China Friendship Association, who played a vital role in strengthening ties with China.
He demanded immediate release of Mosharraf.
