Executive Director of Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Dr Iftekharuzzaman on Tuesday said empowering all the state organs is crucial to ensure a credible election as it is not only about army deployment.
“A fair and credible election is not possible only by army deployment. Instead, all the state organs are needed to be empowered and made independent to ensure an inclusive and acceptable election,” he said.
Iftekhar came up with the remarks while speaking at a report launching programme of the Brac Institute of Governance and Development at Brac Inn Auditorium in the city
He said the ruling parties started politicising the state organs after the ’90s. “The absence of good governance in the election appeared since then, making the election questionable in Bangladesh.”
The TIB Executive Director said a stronger role of the national parliament, judiciary, law enforcement agencies and other state organs are also vital in combating corruption in society. “The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) alone cannot fight against corruption.”
