UNB, Dhaka :
Executive director of the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) Dr Iftekharuzzaman on Wednesday said vigorous campaigns must be launched from the household level to effectively fight corruption in the country.
“If there is a strong political will and proper trial of graft cases and institutional capacity is strengthened, it will be possible to check corruption in the country,” he told a discussion.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) organised the discussion, titled
‘Political commitment and administrative reform together can prevent corruption’ at its conference room in the capital marking its Corruption Prevention Week 2015.
Recalling the historic speech of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Iftekharuzzaman said Bangabandhu had called upon all to build fort in every household, and the same way social movement against corruption must be launched from household level while the young generation has to play a pioneering role.
“Corruption could not be removed from the country where parliament is dysfunctional and parliamentary committees cannot work,” he said adding that the national parliament must be made functional first to check graft.
About the scope of whitening black money in budget, the TIB executive director said such an opportunity encourages the corrupt to get more corrupt.
