Crisis deepening, govt tells consumers to be economical

Amid the deepening crisis of daily commodities including edible oil, wheat and rice for shortfall of supply and galloping prices, the government is telling the consumers to be economical in their usage.
When people are crying for one of the most essential kitchen items ‘edible oil’ the government said that the consumption of soybean oil was detrimental to health.
The government said that the government is looking for alternative to edible oil and during this time the consumers can try other edible oil like rice bran which is Tk 220-250 per litre.
“Rice bran oil is better than soybean and also beneficial for health. Even we can produce seven lakh tonnes of rice bran oil every year. The government is focusing on production on rice bran. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said at the Secretariat.
After the second meeting of the task force committee on commodity prices, the minister told the journalists, the government has identified Mustard, rice bran, and canola oil as alternatives to soybean oil.
He further said that the production of mustard can be increased by a significant amount and it will meet a significant part of the internal demand.
In addition, efforts are being made to increase canola oil imports, the minister continued.
