Police detained three more BNP leaders including Training Affairs Secretary ABM Mosharraf Hossain from the Jatiya Press Club in the city on Friday.
They were shown arrested in a case filed on Tuesday night on charges of vandalism and assault on police, said SM Shamim, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ramna Zone).
They went to the Jatiya Press Club for attending a programme there.
With this, six BNP leaders have so far been arrested in connection with Tuesday’s clash between police and a group of BNP leaders and activists in front of the High Court.
BNP Vice-Chairman Major (retd) Hafizuddin
Ahmed, Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon and Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal President Ishtiaq Aziz Ulfat were arrested on Wednesday and Thursday. Hafiz and Khokan were, however, granted bail by a Dhaka Court the same day.
Two policemen were injured in a clash between a group of BNP leaders and activists and police when they were staging a demonstration on the road in front of the High Court on Tuesday seeking party Chief Khaleda Zia’s release from jail.
A number of vehicles were vandalised during the clash.
Matiur Rahman, Sub-Inspector of Shahbagh Police Station, filed a case against 20-25 identified and 475 unidentified BNP leaders and activists in connection with the clash.
