Thousands trapped in flooded areas of Bianibazar

Persistent downpour and flash floods triggered acute suffering for the residents of eight unions and municipalities of the Sadar upazila in Bianibazar district, where thousands of people remain trapped under water for past few days.
Witnesses said, educational institutes, mosques, houses, shops and internal roads were also inundated, and transportation links between Sylhet- Bianibazar and Bianibazar- Chandarpur were cut
as the embankment of the Kushiara River broke.
On Thursday afternoon the Kushiara was flowing 25 centimeters above the danger level.
The river embankments of Kharavora and Meowa areas in Dubag union also
broke flooding numerous villages.
Visiting the spots our correspondent saw Charkhai, Shaola, Dubag, Kumarbazar, Tilpara, Lauta villages of Dubag union and other villages of Muria union submerged.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Md Asaduzzaman said they provided a total of 14 tonnes of relief materials among the flood-affected people.
OC of Bianibazar Police Station Chandan Kumar Chakraborty said they were trying to evacuate the affected people to nearby shelter centers.
