Thousands of people of ten villages have been suffering for want of a bridge at Chatal village in Jhenaigati upazila of Sherpur district.
The demand for building a bridge in the broken part of the road in front of the house of Shawkat Mondol in Ahmadnagar-Bongaon Road is going on since independence.
The canal has created here after breaking down the Maharashi river protection dam.
Many people from different villages including Bongaon, Chatol, Surihara, Dighir Par, Ahmadnagar, Haldibata, Paglar Mukh, Kalinagar, Bandbhatpara, Jigatala go on the road.
Local people have built a bamboo bridge over the cannel by their own efforts. Many school and college going students also go on the road. They cross the bamboo bridge taking life risk and sometimes face serious problem. Farmers cannot carry their agricultural products to market for want of a bridge.
Jamshed Ali, a villager said we are suffering for a long time as there is no bridge on the cannel. We cannot carry agricultural goods, dying patients and necessary things to other places .We want a bridge here urgently .
Jhenaigati Upazila Engineer Md Rafiqul Islam said proposal has been sent to the concerned department for the construction of a bridge in the broken part. The bridge will be constructed after getting the allocation.
