The National Textbook Festival -2017 was celebrated in the city and the district through distribution of new books among students of primary, secondary, and vocational level educational institutions on the first day of New Year.
Government officials, public representatives, educationists, socio-cultural activists and elite formally launched distribution of free new textbooks among the students everywhere in the city, different upazila headquarters of the district.
City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin formally inaugurated the book distribution programme for the students of Chittagong City Corporation run schools in the city.
Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammad Ruhul Amin formally launched the programme through distributing new textbooks for the students of Secondary level in a ceremony on Municipal Model High school premises on Sunday mornring.
Divisional Deputy Director for Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Azizur Rahman and District Secondary Education Officer Hosene Ara Begum attended the functions as special guests.
In separate function, Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Shamsul Arefin distributed textbooks among the students of primary level in a simple function held at Municipal Government Primary School in the city as the chief guest that morning.
District Primary Education Officer Nasrin Sultana presided over the function, that participated by students, guardians, teachers, civil society members and elite.
District Primary Education Officer Nasrin Sultana said government has allocated about 51.97 lakh pieces of new textbooks for distribution among the students of all primary level institutions in the district.
Nasrin said there will be no shortage of books as the government allocated the new textbooks for the students as per requirement.
Hosene Ara Begum, District Secondary Education officer said over 1.34 ,35300 pieces of new textbooks were allocated by the government for distribution among the students of all secondary level schools and vocational institutions in the city and district.
Books distributed at Parents Care School: Govt text books for different classes have been distributed in Parents CareSchool & College of Chowkbazar in city on Sunday among the students free of cost, school sources said. Chairman of Chittagong Shikka Kaylan Foundation Principal Dr.Abdul Karim, Secretary General Prof. Dr.Abul Kalam Azad, Director Engr. Harunur Rashid, Principal of the School Md Syed Noor and other teachers of the school were present durin g the distribution of govt supplied text books.
 During the distribution of books, chairman of the CSKF Principal Dr. AbdulKarim said there is no alternative of reading books to build talent based nation and praised the steps of the govt of distribution of text books free of cost.
Bagdondi Primary School: The book distribution festival is observed on Saturday in Bagdondi Govt. Primary School of Dholghat under Patiya Police Station of Chittagong. There were attended during the time of distribution of free text book given by the government among the students of Class Nursery to class V, Md. Alauddin the president of managing committee of the School, Md. Abul Kalam, the Vice President of the Committee & U.P Member, Champak Das, the Head Master of the School, Dr. Shovan Das, son of late Gopal Chandra Das , land donor of the School, Auron Bikash Chowdhury, the Secretary General of the Brave Daughter Pritilota Trust, Riton Barua, Secretary of information & research Upazilla Yubo league committee, Ruby Sen, Dilruba Hasna, Lipi Dey, Permita Chowdhury, teacher Debi Chowdhury, , Anuj Barua and photographer Dolan Chowdhury.
During the time of distribution of book, the guests say that, the present government is the eco education (education friendly) government. The Primary and Mass Education Ministry and the education Minister have ceaselessly been working to release the country from the ignorance.
The guardians also have a special role to bring the child to the School. The Government distributes free text book so as to every child gets an opportunity of acquiring knowledge.
