UNB, Chittagong :
BNP on Monday alleged that terrorists came from outside are working to ensure the victory of the ruling party-backed mayoral candidate in Tuesday’s city corporation election through capturing polling stations and casting fake votes.
BNP’s Chittagong city unit president Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, also the chief election agent of BNP-backed mayor candidate Manjur Alam, came up with the allegation at a press conference at his residence.
He said, “The election will be held on Tuesday. As per the election code of conduct, outsiders are
supposed to leave the city two days ahead of the balloting. But, here several thousand outsiders are entering the city. Several thousand more are on the way to Chittagong.”
“Chittagong city has turned into a meeting place of terrorists with the help of administration as the Election Commission has not taken any action against them. No one can imagine what a situation would be created.”
He also alleged that the hired terrorists are continuously threatening the polling agents of Manjur Alam but the administration and the EC remained silent over their allegations.
BNP central body Vice-President Abdullah Al Noman said the government is making mockery in the name of city corporation elections. “If a fair election is held Manjur Alam will get 85 percent votes. Apprehending it, terrorists have been hired for casting fake votes,” he alleged.
“The EC could not make a level-playing field. The people of ruling party-backed candidates are violating the electoral code of conduct. They are roaming around with arms. They’re vandalising Manjur’s election camps. The administration has been working in support of the AL-backed mayor candidate,” he added.
