An alleged terrorist was killed in a ‘shootout’ with police and members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Magura village in Abhaynagar upazila of the district early Friday.
The deceased was identified as Mejbah,40, son of Ramjan Ali of the village.
Officer-in-charge of Abhaynagar police station Khabiruddin said acting on a secret information, a joint team of police and RAB launched a drive in the village around 4 am when Mejbah was holding a clandestine meeting with his
associates. Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the terrorists fired gunshots at them forcing the law enforcers to fire back which triggered a gunfight.
Mejbah was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while the other gang members managed to flee, said the OC. Police said Mejbah was a notorious terrorist of the area and wanted in several cases, including of a murder case.
