Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Rajshahi University (RU) and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET) unit, the student front of the ruling Awami League are being aggressive severely due to internal fued , residential seat dealings, establishing supremacy on the campus, some senior leaders of the organisation alleged.
On 11 December, 2016, the central committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) declared RU unit committee making Golam Kibria as President and Faysal Ahmed Runu as General Secretary. On the same month, Naimur Rahman Nibir and Mahfuzur Rahman Topu were made President and General Secretary of RUET unit respectively. Tenure of the both the committees was expired last December.
Sources said, at least six leaders and activists were injured seriously in a nightlong clash between president and general secretary groups of RUET unit BCL over establishing their supremacy on the campus on March 9 at Shaheed Abdul Hamid Hall. Later, in that night, the committee was suspended by central BCL.
Besides, eleven activists were injured in a clash between the president and secretary group at the same hall on January 23.
On the other hand, President of RU college BCL Al Amin Akash was injured in clash between two rival group on 6 March on Rajshahi University campus.
Moinul Islam, a cultural activist was beaten up by Information and Research secretary of RU unit BCL Mahmudur Rahman Kanon and Joint secretary of Fine Arts faculty Jhalok Sarker on the same day. But, no steps were taken against the accused by central or RU unit BCL in this regard.
