Tense situation grips CU following BCL clash

A tense situation yesterday gripped the Chittagong University campus following a clash between two groups of Banghladesh Chhatra League on the first day of indefinite strike imposed by a group of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Though the shuttle train operation was normal, no teachers’ bus moved to campus on security purpose.
Three departments including Arabic, English and Communication and Journalism department, postponed yesterday’s examination.
The two groups are ‘Choose Friend with Care’ (CFC), known as follower of Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury, Organising Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League and Deputy Minister of Education, led by CU BCL President Rejaul Haque Rubel and ‘Varsity Express’ (VX), loyal of City Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, led by
former deputy office secretary Mizanur Rahman Bipol.
On Friday, the activists of CFC group and VX Group involved in the clash over establishing supremacy in TV room of the Shaheed Abdur Rob Hall around 11 pm. When the news spread on the campus, the activists of VX Group of Sir A F Rahman, Alaol and Suhrawardy Hall gathered in front of Suhrawardy Hall and CFC activists gathered in front of Shah Amanat Hall.
They were chanting slogans against each-other and threw brick.At the mean time, They were seen with domestic weapons on campus.five BCL activities were injured on spot.
On Saturday night, police raided 4 halls and recovered domestic weapons including machete, stones and other local weapons from four halls of Chittagong University (CU) in a drive conducted .
On Sunday evening, two leaders of CFC group are stabbed by miscreants. Later, BCL activities vandalised proctor and police cars,police box.
CFC leaders alleged that VX attempted to murder their leaders with the direction of student advisor of the university Prof. Siraj Doullah. CFC leader also CU BCL president Rejaul Haque Rubel has under the banner of of Taposh Sriti Sangshad
called an indefinite strike demanding two points including removal of Prof.Siraj Doullah from the post and capital punishment and suspicion of two VX leaders who allegedly stabbed.
Early morning on Monday, CFC activists gathered in front of university zero point and Shah Amanat hall and chanted slogans against Siraj Doullah and VX leaders.
Rare students were seen in the campus.
Contracted, CU BCL president said ;” We postpone our strike for 3 days as president of Bangladesh will come in Chhatragram for the purpose of attending convocation of CUET.”
Denying the allegation VX Group leader and former deputy office secretary
Mizanur Rahman Bipul said, “We have no involvement with the incident.We want punishment for those who involved in this connection.”
Contracted,CU proctor Monirul Hasan said that two students were injured by miscreants. Hearing the incident, we were going to spot but miscreants attacked on us in road.Later,Miscreants vandalised proctor and police cars. CU authorities will file an unanimous case against miscreants with Hathazari Model Thana.
