Ten killed in road crashes

Ten people were killed and 17 others injured in road accidents in Comilla, Gaibandha, Satkhira, Munshiganj and Chandpur districts on Saturday. In Comilla, three people, including a woman and her son, were killed as a private car carrying them plunged into a ditch beside Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Daudkandi upazila at noon.
The deceased were identified as Selina Akhter, 28, wife of Mafiz Miah of East Pennai village of the upazila, her son Nijam Uddin,4, and her sister Nasrin Akhter, 35, also wife of Rakib Uddin of Raipur village in the upazila. Officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Police Station Abdul Awal said the Comilla-bound car from Dhaka skidded off the road and plunged into the ditch around 2:30pm after its driver lost control over the steering, leaving the three car passengers dead on the spot. In Gaibandha, two people were killed and two others injured as a private car collided with roadside trees when its driver lost control over the steering in Bagda Farm area of Gobindaganj upazila in the morning. The deceased were identified as Abdur Rahman and Ahsan Habib. The Dinajpur-bound private car, carrying four people, collided with roadside trees after its driver lost control over the steering in the area around 6:00am, leaving the duo dead on the spot, said officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station Subroto Kumar. In Satkhira, a young man and a minor girl were killed and two others injured as a mini truck hit a van carrying them on Satkhira-Khulna highway in Mirzapur Swashanghat area of Patkelghata
 upazila in the morning. Mohibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Patkelghata Police Station, said the accident took place as the mini truck hit the van on the highway around 11am, leaving Ishrafil Sheikh, 28, and Jui, 7, of Tala upazila dead on the spot. In Munshiganj, two people were killed and 10 others injured as a bus collided with another bus on Dhaka-Mawa Highway at Keowatkhali in Shreenagar upazila around 2:15pm, said officer-in-charge of Hasara police camp Golam Morshed. The deceased could not be identified yet. The injured were admitted to local hospitals and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). In Chandpur, Halima Begum, 48, of Poshondapurchar village in Sadar Upazila, was killed and five other people sustained injuries as a speeding truck hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Chandpur-Comilla Road in the district town around 7 am, said officer-in-charge of Sadar Model Police Station.
