Detective Branch (DB) of Police in a drive arrested 10 alleged members of a fake currency racket with Tk 66 lakh counterfeit currency notes from the city and Fatullah of Narayanganj district on Tuesday night.
The arrested men are: Jahangir, 35, Nizam, 35, Shahidar, 27, Rafiqul Islam, 34, Abdur Rahim, 37, Jakir Hossain, 20, Mahmud, 56, Babul Hossain, 30, Al Amin, 41, and Kaser Ali, 32.
The members of the law enforcing agencies also seized huge counterfeit note-making materials from their possession, police said.
Tipped off, the Detective Branch (DB) of Police launched a drive in different parts of the city and arrested Jahangir, Nizam and Shahidar on Tuesday night, said Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Based on their information, detectives raided a house at Mirhazirbagh of the capital and recovered Tk 11 lakh, the police official said.
The law enforcers conducted another drive in Fatullah based on information and arrested Rafiqul, Rahim, Jakir and Mahmud with Tk 55 lakh, the DC said.
As per the information, police moved to Badda area and arrested Babul, Amin and Ali, the DMP official said.
Two separate cases were filed with police stations in this connection, he said.
