Teletalk ties up with NOKIA, Alcatel-Lucent

State-owned mobile phone operator Teletalk has teamed up with NOKIA and Alcatel-Lucent-Shanghai Bel (ALSB) to spread out its network under a modernization and expansion project.
To this end, Teletalk on Wednesday struck two separate deals with NOKIA and ALSB for package-2 and package-3.
Teletalk Managing Director Gias Uddin Ahmed, NOKIA South Asia Market Unit Head Nicolas Bouverot and NOKIA Networks CT Country Head Roland Reynier inked the agreements in presence of State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Tarana Halim at posts and telecommunications division.
NOKIA is entrusted with implementing the package-2 with US$ 18.04 million while ALSB would carry out the package-3 involving US$ 14.07 million.
Under the “Modernization and Expansion of Teletalk’s 2G/3G Network up to Rural Areas Project”, a total of 1700 new BTSs would be installed while 305 BTSs would be replaced, and Node B along with core network and infrastructure would be installed in 1500 sites for 3G coverage.
The entire activities have been segmented into three packages with Teletalk’s own fund.
The package-I is being implemented by Huawei Technologies, under which work is going on to install a total of 685 2G BTSs and 559 Node Bs in different parts of Dhaka, Chittagong and Rangpur Divisions. Teletalk signed a deal with Huawei in June 27, 2016.
Speaking on the occasion, Tarana Halim said they have now concentrated on network
modernization and expansion of Teletalk as other primary problems have already been solved.
“If network and services of Teletalk is developed, subscribers must be connected with it,” said the state minister.
Under the package-2, a total of 895 2G BTSs, of which 2G network expansion in 590 sites and 2G up-gradation of 305 old sites, would be installed while 552 sites would get latest version of Node B for 3G network.
The package would cover different parts of Barisal, Khulna and Sylhet divisions. Besides, the package-3 would strengthen network and other facilities in Uttara, Gazipur, Savar, Manikganj, Mymensingh, Bogra and Rajshahi regions. Under the packages, 2G network would be expanded to 425 new sites while Node B in 390 new sites for 3G coverage.
