World Telecommunication and Information Society Day-2015 was celebrated in the country on Sunday as elsewhere in the globe.
The theme for this year was “Telecommunications and ICTs: Drivers of Innovation”, said Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, secretary of Post and Telecommunications Division while talking at a press briefing at the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) office on Sunday.
Bangladesh government has undertaken a three-day programme, marking the 150th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union.
The inauguration programme of the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day-2015 and 150th anniversary of the International Telecommunication Union, will be held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre today.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the programme as a chief guest while Faizur Rahman Chowdhury, secretary of Post and Telecommunications Division, will preside over the programme.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) division Zunaid Ahmed Palak, chairman of the standing committee members on Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology Affairs will be present on the occasion as a special guest.
Besides, the Prime Minister also unveiled a commemorative postal stamp and distribute prizes among the winners of the ‘online essay competition’.
Meanwhile, a seminar will be held in presence of the experts of Telecommunications and ICT in the evening.
A road show and rally will be held on May 19 to mark the day. The road show will start from Manik Mia Avenue to Mohakhali via Uttara to BICC.
