A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed to death and two others have been injured in an attack by their rivals in Dhaka’s Mohakhali area.
The incident took place in front of Mohakhali kitchen market on Friday night.
The deceased, Arif, a resident of Mohakhali Shattola slum, was a ninth grader of a local school. Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) police outpost in-charge Inspector Bachchu Miah said critically injured Arif was brought to the emergency department of the hospital where the on-duty physician declared him dead around 10:30pm.
The body was kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy. Two injured-Hasan, 14, and Shohag, 15 — are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he added.
Jibon, friend of the deceased, said some of his friends were eating jhalmuri, a street snack, in front of the kitchen market where eight to 10 members, including Nuru and Jony, of another teen-gang swooped on them.
“We later rescued the trio and rushed them to the hospital.” There is a rising trend of teen-gang culture in Dhaka and elsewhere of the country. The gang members are involved in several types of crimes, ranging from mugging, stalking, hijacking, extortion, murder, drug trading, abuse, and so on.
Police have been instructed to stay vigilant against teenage gangs in Dhaka amid a recent surge in gang related crimes.
