A teenage boy drowned while his playmate went missing while swimming in a canal at Rajendrapur here on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Sifat, 12, son of Mafijul Islam while the missing is Zihad 14, son of Imam Ali, both hailing from Baghoir under South Keraniganj Police Station.
Officer-in-charge of the police station Monirul Islam said Sifat and Zihad were swimming in the canal around 2pm when they went missing.
Fighters recovered the body of Sifat around 6:30pm while Zihad remained missing till the operation ended for the day on 10pm.
