The Education Ministry is going to set up technical schools at every upazila across the country in order to build skilled manpower.
Apart from imparting technical education from Class VI to X in those schools, six-month long short courses would also be introduced, the ministry sources said.
The ministry officials said a total of 120 students in two sections from
Class VI to X will be admitted into these technical schools and a technical subject along with general curriculum will be there excluding Agriculture and Home Economics in every class.
These technical school buildings will be four-storied and will have four trade workshops, a common computer laboratory with 30 computers, one library and physics and chemistry lab.
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said that the government had taken initiative to build skilled manpower in the country so that they could work at home and abroad.
He said that the students of these institutes would study such curriculum designed to meet future demand.
At present, 13 percent students are receiving technical education. Steps have been taken to increase its number to 20 percent by 2020 and 30 percent by 2030, he mentioned.
In developed countries like the USA, Canada and Australia, about 70 percent students receive technical education, he added.
Deputy Secretary (Madrasah and Technical Education Division) Subodh Chandra Dhali said the process to establish technical schools in many upazilas has already begun.
“The education minister directed all top officials of the Madrasah and Technical Education Division to work more with a view to translating the mission of the ministry. The officials too have been working in this regard,” he said.
He said that the government would also set up one polytechnic institute in every district and technical trade would also be introduced in the institutes.
