Teachers under 40 can register for Covid-19 vaccine

The government opened registration for the Covid-19 vaccine on www.surokkha.gov.bd for teachers under the age os40.
Over 900,000 teachers are being included in a database for vaccination efforts, said a directive signed by Mominur Rashid Amin, additional secretary at the Department of Secondary and Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, on Thursday.
According to the directive, the NID information of teachers as well as other employees of public and private educational institutions (schools and colleges) has been uploaded to the Surokkha website by including the educational Institutions category. There are separate sub-categories for teachers and other employees, said the directive.
The Department of Education and Boards of Education have been asked to take necessary steps to ensure immediate vaccination of all concerned, the letter added.
The vaccine registration process for educational institutions began on February 25.
DGHS Line Director (MNC & AH) Dr Md Shamsul Haque said: “The government directed us to inoculate teachers of educational institutions on a priority basis. So far, we have received data of over 900,000 teachers from the Ministry of Education.”
However, the government is yet to decide on when and how to start administering Covid-19 vaccines to students at universities and colleges.
