Gopalganj road crash: Teacher who lost her hand airlifted in city

The teacher of Dhaka’s Willes Little Flower School, whose left hand got severed in a road accident in Gopalganj, was admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute here on Tuesday afternoon .
The female teacher identified as Sayeeda Fahima, 48, and 13 other students of the school were injured in the accident that took place when their excursion bus overturned at Ghonapara in Sadar upazila on the Dhaka-Khulna highway on Tuesday.
She was flown to Dhaka from Gopalganj by a helicopter at around 4:00 pm and she was admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute.
Physicians of the hospital said the left hand of the female teacher was severed and her head and other parts of body are also injured.
Resident physician of the hospital Dr Partho Sangker said they are trying to attach the severed hand. A team of physicians, headed by chief of the hospital Prof Abul Kalam, have been conducting surgery to attach her hand, he said.
Md Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station in Gopalganj district, said over 100 students and several teachers of the school were going to Bangabandhu Mausoleum at Tungipara on a study tour.
When they reached Ghonapara, the bus overturned following a collision with a truck that left 14 of them injured. The left hand of Sayeeda Fahima was severed in the accident. They were first taken to Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital from where two of them were airlifted to Dhaka for better treatment.
