Maximum foreign ships staying in Mongla Port

Mongla, the 2nd Sea Port of the country is gradually gaining a new life.
 As many as 15 foreign ships are staying at the port at a time in the present week. It is a memorable and a new record in the history of the last 15 years of Mongla Sea Port
 Some 11 foreign ships (mother vessels) stayed at the port on Sunday.
 Besides , 10/12 more foreign ships are scheduled to arrive at the port. Staying of so many ships at the port at a time created new hopes and aspirations among the businessmen of various categories including the importers and exporters.
H. M. Dulal, a user of the port and a shipping businessman told, different categories of businessmen including importers and exporters who are using Mongla Port began to dream a new dream centering the port. If this trend of the arrival of ships at the port continue people of south-western region of the country will be economically solvent and enriched. With the implementation of the Padma bridge and Khanjahan Ali air port new industries are being established in the region and both local and foreign investors began to use Mongla Port.
Shipping agent Badiuzzaman who is using the port told, with the initiative of the present Government silted and abandoned Mongla-Ghasiakhali international water channel was re-excavated. As a result, water vessels are now moving through the channel. It is an important plus point for Mongla Port.
Rear Admiral Riaz Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Mongla Port authorities disclosed to the newsmen, the infrastructure of the port was developed to a great extent by this time. So, Nepal, Bhutan and India are now willing to use Mongla port. The matter of Nepal and Bhutan is now under processing.
Talukdar Abdul Khalek MP of Bagerhat Constituency-3 told, Government has been taking special care for Mongla port for its over-all-development since 2009 in order to develop the socio-economy of the south and south-western zone of the country. The MP expected that Mongla will be an economic zone of the country by the year 2018.
