TCB starts open market sale of onion, 6 traders fined

Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has started selling of imported onion in open market sale (OMS ) for the first time in the port city at Tk.45 per kg here on Tuesday.
After beginning of onion scarcity in the country, TCB has taken these steps to sell onion in open market sale.
TCB started selling onion with six trucks consists of one ton in each truck at Kotwali crossing, Baizid, Pahartali, Halishahar, Bandar thana and Dampara police line .
The lower and middle class dwellers of the city became very happy to get the onion in a comparatively very cheap price.
Local body representatives, law enforces helping the TCB vans to sell the onions in a disciplined way with proper queue to avoid rush of the buyers.
None was given more than one kg onion, an eye witness sources said.
Another report adds: Six onion traders of Khatungonj and Reazuddin Bazar in the city were convicted with penalty of Tk.1.10 lakh in separate drives in the port city for alleged price hike in retail markets. District Administration, Consumers Rights Protection Directorate and Ministry of Commerce in a joint raid fined these traders on Friday.
The convicted shops are : Elias Store, Bhai Bhai Departmental store, Jalal Store, Makkah Stores, Mabia Stores, Maa Baba Stores . Deputy Secretary of Commerce Ministry Md Selim Hossain, Deputy Director of Consumers Rights Directorate Shahida Fatema Chowdhury participated the mobile court raid.
