TCB starts OMS today amid price hike

The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) will begin open market sale OMS of three essential commodities for lower income group of people amid the strict lockdown and ahead of Eid-ul-Azha from today.
But within just two months, the government entity Trading Corporation of Bangladesh is likely to enhance the price of commodities again under the open market sale (OMS) programme. Just two months ago in Ramzan, the TCB sold its per kg sugar at Tk 50, lentil at Tk 50 per kg and soybean oil at Tk 100 per litre under the OMS.
The corporation will continue the OMS activity, better known as truck sale, on 450 trucks till July 29, excepting Eid holidays across the country to keep prices of essential commodities stable, said a TCB official.
The TCB will sell essential items till July 29 through some 450 mobile trucks in the capital, metropolitan areas, and districts and in upazilas except the government declared holidays and the Holy Eid -ul-Azha.
While talking, TCB Joint Director and Dhaka Region office Information Officer Md Humayun Kabir said that the TCB has been continuing its truck sale operations as an emergency service during the pandemic.
“But in order to increase, the supply of essential items, the TCB will begin its truck sale from tomorrow through dealers by strictly following the health safety guidelines,” he added.
The corporation has fixed price of sugar at Tk 55 per kg, lentil at Tk 55 per kg, and soybean oil at Tk 100 per litre and an individual will be allowed to buy highest four
kg of sugar, two kg of lentil and five litre of edible oil at a time.
 Meanwhile on Sunday, the corporation sent a press release to the media in this regard.
The price of the OMS soybean oil per litre was Tk 80 in April 2020.
Later, the TCB fixed the rate at Tk 90.
Currently, soybean oil is being sold at Tk 100 per litre at TCB trucks and dealers. It will now be traded at Tk 110 from the next OMS programme.
The TCB’s procurement price is thus increasing, according to a senior commerce ministry official.
The maximum retail price of edible oil has been selling at Tk 150 perlitre following a surge in the international market on May 27.
