TCB begins sale of essentials across the country among 1cr cardholders

The government is going to sell daily essentials at subsidised prices through the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) across the country from Tuesday.
The government is already distributed one crore TCB cards to the low-income families keeping in mind the spiraling prices of kitchen items mainly edible oil, lentils and onion to reduce pressure of financial crisis of these households.
The dealers will get the products on Monday and the buyers will get the products after the commerce minister inaugurates the programme in the opposite side of National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases on Tuesday.
Earlier on Sunday, the TCB informed through a statement that it will start selling products like sugar, edible oil, lentil and onion among the one crore card holders at subsidised prices. And accordingly, the selling will begin on Tuesday.
When contacted, Md Humayun Kabir, information officer of TCB, told this correspondent that the sellers will collect the products on Monday and they will sell those goods to the consumers the next day.
“Usually, the sellers collect the goods a day before they start selling. Then they pack those and sell them to customers the next day at designated selling points. It takes a day to pack the goods they get from the TCB,” he added.
However, on Monday, the TCB said the allotted goods will reach the consumers on Tuesday after the inauguration of the distribution by the minister for commerce. This time, each of the cardholders will get two litres of soybean oil, two kg of lentils, one kg of sugar and two kg of onions.
A litre of soybean oil will be sold at Tk 110, sugar at Tk 55 a kg, lentils at Tk 65 a kg and onions at Tk 20 a kg. However, onions will be sold only in the city corporation areas and TCB regional office-affiliated districts.
