TCB asked to take steps for controlling commodity prices during Ramzan

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce has recommended taking timely measures by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) to keep prices of essential commodities, including oil, pulses and gram, under control during the next Ramadan.
The committee made the recommendation at its 25th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad on Monday with its chairman Md Tajul Islam Chowdhury in the chair, said a press release.
The meeting was informed that the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has so far fined and realized a total of Tk 17.62 crore through market monitoring under the Consumers’ Right Protection Act-2009.
For creating public awareness about the consumers’ rights, the DNCRP held 758 public hearings and 2823 view-exchange meetings until January 2018. It also distributed 17.50 lakh posters and leaflets across the country during the same period.
The meeting suggested carrying out regular operations to check various deceitful activities, including food adulteration.
