TC Sports Club of the Maldives emerged new champions of the eight-team Sheikh Kamal International Club Cup Football beating Pocheon Citizen FC by 4-2 goals in penalty shootout in the final on Friday.
The keenly contested final between the two teams was locked in 2-2 goals in the stipulated 90 minutes and also in the 30-minute extra period in a crowd-packed floodlit MA Aziz Stadium in the port city.
Haneef put TC Sports Club of the Maldives ahead in the 18th minute by a well-merited header from inside the danger zone off a corner (1-0).
Jang Yong restored the parity for Pocheon Citizen FC in a similar fashion by a close range header from goalmouth melee also off a corner kick (1-1).
Deuk scored the 2nd goal for Pocheon Citizen FC in the 55th minute (2-1).
When the match was heading for Pocheon FC victory, Azzam Mohammd leveled the margin for TC Sports Club by a powerful low shot from just outside the danger zone in the 83rd minute (2-2).
TC Sports Club reached the final with unbeaten run eliminating Manang Marshyangdi of Nepal by 1-0 goal in the first semifinal while Pocheon Citizen FC booked a seat for the final also with unbeaten record eliminating holders Chittagong Abahani Ltd by 2-1 goals.
Earlier in the group matches, TC Sports Club beat Dhaka Abahani Ltd 1-0, defeated FC Alga 2-1 and played to a 1-1 draw with Pocheon Citizen FC while Pocheon FC beat FC Alga 2-0, drew goalless with Dhaka Abahani and played to a 1-1 draw with TC Sports Club.
