UNB, Dhaka :
BNP on Friday celebrated the 51st birthday of its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman in a low key profile with only arranging some prayer programmes without cutting any cake.
On the occasion, the party arranged a milad and doa mahfil on the ground floor of its Nayapaltan central office after Juma’ prayers.
After the milad, a munajat was offered seeking early recovery of Tarique. Though the leaders and activists of BNP and its associate bodies celebrated the birthday cutting many cakes last year, this time they canceled all the cake-cutting programmes following the BNP senior vice chairmen’s instruction.
BNP spokesman Asaduzzaman Ripon on Thursday told reporters that Tarique asked the party men not to cut any cake on the occasion considering the country’s current political situation as many BNP leaders and activists are either in jails or on the run facing false cases.
BNP assistant office secretary Shamimur Rahman Shamim said BNP leaders and activists across the country marked Tarique’s birthday through arranging doa mahfil and praying for him. Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal also arranged a separate milad mahfil at the BNP’s central office on the occasion.
Besides, Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB) arranged a free heath camp at the BNP office to mark Tariques’ birthday. BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandar Roy inaugurated the medical camp.
Tarique, living in London for treatment since 2008, was born on November 20, 1965.
