Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) has targeted to produce 89,646 tonnes of summer vegetables from 4,460 hectares of land in the district as a massive program has been taken to achieve the target.
The farmers have cultivated summer vegetables on 3,758 hectors of land in the district and they have continued making their untiring efforts to cultivate vegetables on the rest of the targeted land.
Deputy Director of the DAE Netrakona F M Mubarak Ali said the peasants are coming forward to cultivate summer vegetables like lady’s finger, red and green leafy, brinjal, gourd, sweet gourd, cucumber, bottle gourd, pointed gourd, tomato and arum in the districts.
He said different state-run agencies including BADC and BCIC are ensuring supply of improved quality seeds, fertilizers and other agricultural equipment at fair prices at farmers’ door-steps to inspire them to cultivate summer vegetables.
He also said crops specialists and field-level officials of the DAE have continued rendering their field-level service to let the vegetables growers know about the modern methods of cultivation using latest technologies and reducing production costs.
