Tarana to visit S`pore to sign deal with Facebook

Staff Reporter :Post and Telecommunication State Minister Tarana Halim has said that she is likely to visit Singapore to sign a deal with Facebook in a meeting with the social media’s official on January 12.Tarana said this on Wednesday at a press conference in the Secretariat Office and added that she would also visit offices of several telecommunication companies as well as of tech giant Microsoft. As part of her endeavour for the agreement with Facebook, she will also meet telecom and ICT ministers of Singapore and Malaysia. She will seek advice from their counterpart to install a high performance business model to make Teletalk a profitable company.On December 6 last year, Facebook’s South Asia Public Policy Manager Dipali Liberhen and South Asian Applied Law Expert Bikram Longe met Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister Tarana Halim, ICT State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak and other senior officials from various security agencies.It should be noted that the government shut down Facebook and other social media websites citing security concerns on 22 November 22. The embargo was lifted on December 10.
