SCBA election factor: Taposh resigns from Awami Ainjibi Parishad

Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has tendered his resignation as the Member Secretary of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad taking responsibility for “organisational defeat” in the recently held Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.Taposh submitted the resignation letter to the office of the General Secretary of Awami League on Saturday, said Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Convener of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, a forum of pro-Awami League lawyers.
He tendered the resignation shouldering responsibility as most of the candidates nominated by the party lost in the SCBA election, Yusuf told the journalists on Sunday.
The resignation, however, will not be accepted, he said, adding that Barrister Taposh will attend the programme of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, as its Member-Secretary to place at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the Independence Day on Monday.
Hundreds of lawyers have already requested Taposh to withdraw his resignation and brought out a procession on the SCBA premises on Sunday demanding withdrawal of Taposh’s resignation, Advocate Yusuf added.
Pro-BNP lawyers won 10 out of 14 posts, including that of the President and Secretary, in the SCBA election.
Pro-Awami League lawyers secured four posts, including that of an Assistant Secretary.
The election results were announced on Friday morning after the two-day voting ended on Thursday.
